Cuero High School dialed up the long distance in their win over San Antonio Kennedy on Friday night.

The Gobblers scored on two long passes, one for a touchdown and one for a two-point conversion, to beat Kennedy 28-27.

Cuero quarterback Luke Anello connected with wide receiver Ty Gibson on a 73-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

Anello then found Gibson again in the fourth quarter for a 31-yard two-point conversion to seal the win.

The win improved the Gobblers’ record to 3-2 on the season, while the loss dropped Kennedy to 1-4.

The Gobblers were led on offense by running back Kaleb Robinson, who rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Robinson’s rushing performance helped Cuero build a 21-7 lead heading into halftime.

Kennedy did not give up, however, and scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to take a 27-21 lead.

It was then that Anello and Gibson connected for the two-point conversion to complete the comeback victory.
